Yet another lens!

31st May 2012
You would think that I had enough (two) 50mm lenses. But no! Yesterday I pounced on a 50mm f2 Zeiss Planar T*.

It all stems from Ming Thein's review of the new M Monochrom and of the new Leica 50mm F2 APO ASPH - a lens which it is unlikely that I will be able to afford certainly not for some time. As I understand it, in Ming's view the Zeiss Planar is very close in performance to the Leica lens, so when one came available to me.....!
This does mean that I shall have to sell on the "250 Jahre" Voigtlander 50/2 another reluctant parting.

This leads me on to possible future plans.

I have worked out how I can afford the new Leica M Monochrom camera, a camera for B&W photography. The sample images I have seen and printed so far (with thanks to Jono Slack) are amazing. They do need work to get the best out of them; no printing or viewing the RAW file straight from camera. But once "developed" they are extraordinary.

I love my M8.2 - especially for B&W but I have the feeling that once I try out the MM I may have to sadly say good bye and move on. Shame. Can't afford to keep it as well.
